Sovereignty! Over What?

The human ego struggles with sovereignty, power and authority. We need to have power and authority over that which is ours to protect and provide for in this world. Yet, we struggle to claim rights to make our own decisions. We either grab for too much power, or we abdicate our own knowing to those who we perceive to be in positions of power and authority over us, or those who have influence over our beliefs.

One example that baffles the mind is that of the food and health industries. Look at the commercials on television. If you don’t watch television, as I did not for many years, peek in for a few minutes and check out the advertisements.

First, they want you to consume meals of heavy meats and processed foods with sugary sodas or diet sodas. The next commercial is for beer or liquor. The next commercial is for antacids or pain relievers. Next, the prescription drugs you can ask your doctor to prescribe – for your physical health and mental health. Oh yea, and don’t forget the health insurance – and the life insurance so your loved ones can bury you.

It lays out the path of influence clearly. If it didn’t have so much power over the masses, it would be comical.

We need to U-N-P-L-U-G! At least unplug our minds from the machine. We have the right and authority to make decisions for the good of our own lives. We need – and must have – sovereignty over our own domains!

But what is within your domain? Your body, health, heart and soul. It’s not hard to claim your right to care for yourself. And what about the things in your life that you have committed to care for? What part of your relationships and family fall within your domain? What part of your job responsibilities, life purpose, commitments to others?
