Peace, Not Polarization

With the increasing divisiveness in our society, how can we choose peace, not polarization, and still stand for what we believe in?

I watched a docuseries this past week about the many forces that have worked together to create the amplified level of polarization we are experiencing here is the US over the recent years.

In the many interviews, I could observe which of the people seemed to be getting energized off the power they could conjure by preaching a divisive message – and also how it energized the crowd. I could also feel the peace that emanated when someone shared a message of unity.

At the core, the needs expressed are pretty much the same. The difference is in how we go about it and to what end, and how we view the earth and spirit realms. Share on X

The most interesting thing was that the basic values and needs that were being expressed were pretty much the same, and a large percentage of even the phrases were similar to what we talk about in our community and in our meditations.

None of us want to be deceived and manipulated by a corrupt government. No one wants to see evil and darkness perpetuated. And there is truth and value in standing up to that which causes harm to ourselves and others.

The difference is in how we do it and to what end, and how we view the earth and spirit realms.

Remember, Gandhi said:

“Be the change you wish to see in the world.”

What is your vision for change? Who does it call you to be?

And Buckminster Fuller said:

“You never change things by fighting the existing reality.

To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete.”

What is the new model you would like to put your energy into? Does it exist? How can you begin to live according to that model here and now?
