Letting the Light In through the Witness State
The poet Rumi wrote:
“The crack is the place where the light gets in.”
This is also quoted as “The wound is the place where the light enters you.” But letting the light in is not so easy when your wounds are covered in scar tissue…
Listen to the podcast here:
When the outer surface of a wound heals, it is covered over with scar tissue, which tends to be tougher and harder to penetrate than the surrounding area.
We tend to favor the parts of ourselves that have been hurt, guarding and protecting them from further harm. And in protecting them from harm, we build walls and barriers so tight that they also keep the light out.
But allowing the light to penetrate these well-protected barricades can bring the most profound healing.
So, how can you allow the light to heal the places you hide, especially the ones you hide from yourself?
First, it is to know that you are loved unconditionally. There is a Light of Truth that knows you better than you know yourself – a Light that loves you unconditionally and accepts every part of your self.
Second is to know that you are a being of light, a reflection of the One Light. No matter what has ever happened in your life, the One Light is within you intact at your core. Every pain you’ve ever experienced and every decision you’ve ever made can be traced back to this light inside.
In everything we see and do, we live our lives attempting to connect to this core light. Our beliefs and choices can get pretty convoluted and seem pretty distant because we forget our core light, and the challenging events of our lives separate us from our core light – but this is why we’re looking for it. The problem is that we want to find it in the world, yet it is inside of us calling us home.
Third is to become a witness to the Divine Light within yourself, and to allow all the parts of yourself to be witnessed by the One Light of Truth and Unconditional Love.
This brings healing to the parts of you that most need it, the parts that have been waiting and most yearn for acceptance and to return to be unified with the whole of you.
This is healing. Healing means to make whole.
Rumi said, 'The wound is the place where the light enters you.' But how do you get the light through when your wounds are covered in scar tissue? Share on XThis is what we’re exploring in today’s Prayer & Healing Circle. We’ll use the Divine Attribute, Ash-Shahid, the Witness to penetrate the scar tissue and bring self-awareness and light to the innate truth inside ourselves.
