Healing through Service to Others

If you’ve been on a healing journey, you know that when you are able to help someone else through their struggles, magic happens for both of you. Healing through service to others is a powerful exchange of love and compassion.

I was speaking with a friend who is in a 12-step program. It’s a powerful healing journey, and yet his sponsor had relayed to him that the magic really happens when you begin to help others.

We can look to another with a compassionate smile that says, “I see you. I have some idea of what you’re going through. There is hope.” We can extend a hand that says, “Here’s something that helped me. It might help you too, and you will see that you are not alone.”

We don’t have to be perfected before we can be of service. We reach a point where we feel gratitude for having found a way out of our pain, we’ve gained insights and wisdom, and we feel compassion for others who are still caught in the struggle.

I’ve been in the healing field for almost 30 years now. Most people who come to be healers and coaches have been through trauma, abuse, addiction, or made dreadful mistakes, and they’ve found a way through.

To serve others is an expression of gratitude and compassion, and it’s also a continuation of your personal healing journey. The Universe will always bring you what you need to see yourself more clearly through the eyes of another, to show you your next steps, to help you have more acceptance of yourself and the choices you’ve made, and to love yourself more completely.

And the service gives us a sense of purpose, value, accomplishment, usefulness.

Everyone needs to feel they have something of value to contribute to the world – our children, elderly, and everyone in between. To be of service is rewarding for the giver and the receiver.
