Healing Grief from Earth’s Lungs
It’s time for healing grief from our lungs – collective humanity and the planet – and adjusting our lifestyles to stop doing what has been creating disease.

COVID-19 is a disease that attacks the lungs. In severe cases, of which there are many, the lungs are unable to get oxygen into the blood stream and release carbon dioxide. So there’s not enough fresh air, and CO2 becomes too high.
This is the same disease of our planet right now. It’s a disease many of us have been ignoring or denying or feeling like we don’t have the power to correct.
Just like in our human lives, when we ignore worsening conditions, the body will throw up a flag or create a crisis that forces us to stop and pay attention.
Of course, everything is a mirror. Our Earth has thrown up a flag that has caused us to stop and pay attention. We’ve been forced to make changes that are finally enough to begin to reduce CO2 levels and restore clean air and fresh waters.
Just like after a smoker has developed a lung disease, he cannot continue to smoke and expect to live, we cannot go back to the way things were and expect to continue as a species.
We need to heal our lungs – collective humanity and the planet – and we need to adjust our lifestyles so that we stop doing what has been creating conditions for disease.

Interestingly, the emotion associated with the lungs is grief. And the Divine Attribute associated with lungs is Ar-Razzaq, The Provider, Provision.
If you feel into the current situation, there is enormous collective grief. If you look at the planetary situation, the planet does provide our sustenance. What has been killing our planet is our constant grab for more, for increase, for “abundance.”
We have been taking, taking, taking until our planet can no longer breathe. No wonder there is so much grief.
We must finally hear this message and change our mindset. I pray we can use this experience as a catalyst to transform our lifestyles into simplicity – one of sufficiency, not abundance.
What do we truly need? How can we find contentment? Perhaps through caring for one another, cooperation with each other and the Earth and all her inhabitants. And through a mutual sharing and exchange of nurturing, loving kindness.
