Finding Personal Power Amidst Old Family Dynamics

We’re at the end of a holiday weekend, and I received this request: “Do you have any quick tips for finding your personal power while encountering old family dynamics?”

The 4th of July is a time when sparks fly in the sky, and they can also fly on the ground as the old family dynamics are reignited. No matter how much work we’ve done on ourselves or how much we’ve changed, when we get around the people we grew up with, we can become the old version of ourselves in an instant. Dang it!

FIRST – Thank you for the question. I love requests.

SECOND – I apologize for bringing this to you at the end of the weekend. However, it is something we can use all the time – with family and children, with coworkers, with our communities – even with the community of our inner selves. Practice it daily and you’ll have it internalized for future use.

THIRD – How was your weekend? In the US, this past weekend we celebrated Independence Day – the anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence and our break from Great Britain. Many people got together with friends and family for cookouts, picnics and fireworks.

It’s a time when sparks fly in the sky, and they can also fly on the ground as the old family dynamics are reignited. No matter how much work we’ve done on ourselves or how much we’ve changed, when we get around the people we grew up with, we can become the old version of ourselves in an instant. Dang it!

The first step is to recognize when old patterns are triggered. Who are we becoming? It this being true to our most authentic selves?

Fear not, the authentic you is still in there. You can call yourself back to center and reassign control to the command central – the you that knows your Truth and witnesses and discerns all the other versions of you.

That is what we will practice in today’s Prayer & Healing Circle – accessing the Knowing You and bringing the versions of you back to center so you can be in your personal power – witnessing and discerning, choosing your responses, maintaining your integrity, being in your Truth.
