How are you at receiving compliments? Do you find yourself shying away or deflecting, laughing, shrugging it off, changing the subject? Maybe you instantly counter with a compliment before you can receive the acknowledgement you’ve been given.

I get it. No one wants to be arrogant or prideful. But if the praise is for a God-given gift that you have been so fortunate to develop, then it’s not about you. My teacher, Sidi Shaykh Muhammad al-Jamal, used to say, “This life is for you, but not about you.”

Your life is for you, and it moves through you. What will you do with the gifts you are given? The gifts are not yours to claim or deny. They are what they are simply because this is what has been created.
