Overwhelm? Drowning in a Sea of To-Do’s?
Is it just me or is this time of year overwhelming, to say the least?
It’s graduation time, from Kindergarteners to Ph.D.’s… and end-of-school programs… and parties… and making arrangements for the young ones during the summer… and…
This past 2 years I’ve spent living in the midst of my family – my father and sisters and all their tribes – has taught me some valuable lessons about trust and patience, especially in my business. It has taught me to turn to patience, reliance and trust in ways I hadn’t needed them before.
Listen to the podcast here:
And next weekend we are celebrating my sister’s 75th birthday! Family will start arriving tomorrow to stay for the week – gotta clean the house and wash the sheets and get the groceries. And my niece’s baby is due next weekend – same day as the party. At the very least we’ll have their 4 young ones for the weekend. I love these times, and I’m grateful to be living with family again.
And every day my dad has a project or a doctor appointment. There’s always something to do, and this too is something I love. At 96 years old, I don’t want to bring a moment of disappointment to his days.
And then there’s work. For me, it’s work I love, but it sure gets squeezed at times. The time I love to spend with it gets compressed between all the demands and obligations of family. And it seems projects take a lot longer to complete – like the workbook that REALLY IS almost done now!
This time of overwhelm has taught me to turn to patience, reliance and trust in ways I hadn’t needed them before. And the outcomes have been revealing – my business has gotten into a rhythm that is actually healthier than before. I’m not producing as much, but it is more consumable. And the income level has stayed consistent even though I’m not working near the number of hours I worked before.
One of the Divine Attributes that helps in these times is the Name of As-Sabur, The Patience, The Perseverance.
