I’m on a plane headed to California to visit my spiritual teacher and my spiritual family at the Shadhiliyya Sufi Center and the University of Spiritual Healing & Sufism.
I’ve been a part of this community for 18 years. I lived and worked with the organizations for at least half of that time, even though I’ve lived on the east coast for the last … 9 years?! Wow! Time flies!
So this is like a family reunion! Just like with my biological family, I am so excited to see almost everyone! I truly can’t wait to be there. But then there’s that little snag that feels like my free-flowing fabric is caught on a thorn in my side. The anticipation of interacting with that one person is … let’s just say it offers opportunity for healing.
Relationships are wonderful when they reflect the joy and beauty. But sometimes they show us the places where we shut down – maybe where we’ve felt disrespected, unseen, unappreciated, or just been hurt!
The walls come up to guard the parts that have been hurt, AND they signal that there’s an opportunity to heal. I know if it shows up with the people I feel closest to, it will likely show up again as I move on in my life and develop new relationships.
Fortunately, the only one who can keep me feeling this way is ME! The healing practices I teach are such a part of my life that I welcome the opportunity – which I do consider an honor – to break through another wall and step myself into an even more expansive space of certainty and personal freedom.
Taking the steps to heal your relationships and your life can be scary, especially if what you want to change is an established pattern. Patterns keep us in the familiar, in what is known, and there’s safety in that. I get it!
Breaking free can feel like jumping off a cliff without a safety net. How do you know if there will be anything there to catch you? How do you know if you’ll survive?
But if the discomfort is nagging at you, it’s showing you a place inside that wants to come to light – a place that is being guarded that wants to be set free.
The truth is, sometimes it does feel worse before it feels better. I’ve been through many of these breakthroughs in my life, and I’ve helped many others go through their own. It’s helpful to have support and guidance. I likely would not have gotten this far without my teacher. What a gift!
It has allowed me to discover an inner beauty and love, and to realize a personal freedom beyond anything I ever could have imagined. For all the hard times I’ve gone through, I would do it again many times over to know the freedom I know today.
Each of us – including you – was created from Divine Love and Beauty. You have a song in your heart that wants to be sung and wings that want to soar. The state of being shut down is NOT NATURAL.
Your inner light is meant to be nurtured, respected, honored and cherished. You have to trust that in returning to your natural state you will find the provision to live fulfillment and joy that you are meant to live – most times just waiting for you to turn to it.
Respect yourself – honor your truth – love and beauty. It’s worth it!
If you’re ready to take the leap – to have the breakthroughs in your life to set yourself free and let your light shine, I would be honored to support and guide you in this process.
