Prayers for Peace through the lens of a Classic Rock Song

In my morning meditation on Friday, I got a strong urge to divert from the original plan and make today’s Meditation & Healing Circle prayers for peace, a call to remember our common origin as cosmic beings on an intertwined and inseparable path to return to unity.

I had no idea of the events that would play out yesterday, but it seems the diversion is timely and divinely aligned.

Earlier in the week one of our beautiful Sufi teachers, Kabir Helminski, shared the lyrics of the classic rock song Woodstock, written by Joni Mitchell and more famously sung by Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young.

“We are stardust,

We are golden,

We are billion-year-old carbon,

And we’ve got to get ourselves back to the garden.”

A classic rock song calls us to remember our common origin as cosmic beings on an intertwined and inseparable path to return to unity. Share on X

From the time I read the post, the song continued to loop in my heart. The song is a remembrance of who we are and a prayer for peace.

Later in the song it says:

“And I dreamed I saw the bomber jet planes

Riding shotgun in the sky

Turning into butterflies

Above our nation.”
