I had a client a few years back who called herself a Parkinsonian. She had lived with Parkinson’s disease for 20 years. She was in her 70’s at the time, and her body was quite frail.
She held a strong identity as a Parkinsonian and spoke fondly of her fellow Parkinsonians in her weekly support group. None held any possibility of healing. That’s not what they were there for. They had come together to create community around their disease. They had collectively agreed on the path the disease would take them on, and they were walking it together.
Her older brother had brought her in for healing. He was a strong believer in the power of energetic spiritual healing. But her mind was set on the path that she and her fellows had agreed upon. The idea of changing her path in any way was not conceivable to her mind.
Pain and difficulty bring with it questions, confusion – What is happening? Why is this happening? I need to know what this is so I know how to get rid of it.
In our western medical model, when we have symptoms that cause us discomfort, we look for a diagnosis. I hear time and time again, “The doctors are running more tests. They haven’t found a diagnosis. Once we get the diagnosis, we’ll know how to treat my disease.”
When I hear this, I cringe. I get that there is value in knowing the results of these tests, but I caution the need to put a label on it. In the western medical model, the label typically determines what medications you will need to take. If there is a prognosis, then a path of expectations is laid out as well.
If your body has a condition that has been labeled – and if you are interested in healing or changing the prognosis that goes along with that label – please be careful. The mind is very powerful – it can take on the whole belief structure associated with a label.
If you have taken on a label and its beliefs, it doesn’t mean you can’t heal. It just means there’s one more layer to heal before you can see positive change. The mental layer – a collection of beliefs – an energy just like any other – is just one more thing to let go of.
I’m coming up on my 50th birthday. I’m hearing many messages about what happens to your body and your life when you turn 50!! Some of them sound ludicrous! But it’s giving me an opportunity to explore the beliefs that I have taken on about aging and begin to let them go now.
We are all energy – connected to a Universal Oneness which holds infinite possibilities for us. We do not get what we want in this life, we get what we align our energetic vibrations with, and the possibilities are infinite.
Do you have desire for healing for your physical body or your heart? What possibilities would you like to align with?
Question your own mind. Are there labels and beliefs that you would like to release so that you can open to new possibilities? You are already connected to the source of healing. Just say yes.
